About Us
In 1985, Instituto Familiar de la Raza (IFR) established Sí a la Vida—the first Chicano/Latino-specific HIV program in San Francisco. At that time, there were no culturally based services for people at risk of infection or living with HIV/AIDS. Today, Sí a la Vida – Integrated HIV Services provides a full range of culturally rooted services designed to meet the needs of Latinos at risk for HIV, as well as those living with HIV/AIDS. Our approach is centered on harm reduction, empowerment, and care for the whole person.
We support HIV-negative clients with tools to prevent HIV, and we walk alongside HIV-positive clients so they can lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
In 2013, Sí a la Vida, in collaboration with Mission Community Health Center, established the Latino Wellness Center to make HIV prevention services more accessible to the community. This work continues to grow. In addition to HIV-focused services, we are committed to supporting the broader health and wellness needs of the Latino community, including the Latino LGBTQ+ community. We also promote wellness efforts that support LGBTQ+ youth as they embrace their full uniqueness as part of a diverse and vibrant community.

Our Purpose
Our work goes beyond HIV prevention services. Sí a la Vida is deeply committed to strengthening the health and wellness of the broader Latino and Latino LGBTQ+ community. From supporting LGBTQ+ youth in embracing their full uniqueness to promoting wellness services that affirm diversity and resilience, we work to build a healthier, more empowered community.
We seek a future in which people living with HIV can enjoy healthy, fulfilling, and long lives, and those who are HIV-negative remain so. At the same time, we aim to support an empowered Latino community that can freely and proudly value its full identity and celebrate its diversity.
What We Offer
Sí a la Vida seeks to reduce the number of new cases of HIV and STIs in the San Francisco Latino community; increase access to health and social services for both HIV-negative and HIV-positive clients; reduce the stigma associated with HIV status, sexual orientation, and gender identity; and improve wellness and quality of life for Latinos living, working, or spending time in San Francisco.
To meet these goals, Sí a la Vida offers individual services, HIV and STI testing, group services, and community forums. Services may be held at the Latino Wellness Center, Instituto Familiar de la Raza main office, or other locations.
Our services are designed to meet the needs of all ethnicities and populations throughout San Francisco, while offering focused expertise to address the unique needs of the Latino community.
