School Violence Interrupter I - Roadmap to Peace

AGENCY DESCRIPTION:  

Instituto Familiar de la Raza, Inc. is a multi-service community health and social service agency with an emphasis on serving the Chicano/Latino/Indígena community in San Francisco with a special focus on the diverse needs of the Mission District. Services include a wide range of mental health, HIV-related services, and social services, including health promotion, education, prevention, early intervention, case management, psychological and psychiatric interventions, and cultural/social and spiritual re-enforcement. The agency serves children, youth, adults, and families. It has a rich history of working collaboratively with other agencies to meet the needs of the Chicano/Latino/Indígena community and other cultural/racial communities in San Francisco.

PROGRAM/POSITION DESCRIPTION:  

School Crisis Intervention Program supports SFUSD middle and high school students before, during and after school and connects them to services and supports.

The School Violence Interrupter (SVI-I) position will offer various levels of support to students and faculty. The SVI-I will provide assistance in various situations that may occur at school and outside of school. SVI-I will also work in communities and collaborate with other community-based organizations and entities that assist in supporting youth and young adults. They will also support in relaying critical intelligence and information to the SVIP extended team. SVI-I will work closely with RTP’s subcontractor in providing the appropriate linkage to needed resources and run support groups throughout the school year.

Essential Job Duties include but are not limited to the following:  

  • Provide mentoring/mediation support to SFUSD students during normal school hours
  • Provide one-on-one and group sessions for youth
  • Provide classroom observation and support
  • Provide Support during IEP Meetings, Expulsion Hearings and Reentry planning
  • Provide check-in with student and guardians
  • Attend safety planning and training with T-10 Officers
  • Prepare reports for DCYF-CMS and weekly citywide coordination meetings
  • Participate in mandatory Citywide training and Professional Development
  • Participate in weekly youth services and support meetings
  • Connect youth to additional services as identified by the School Crisis Support Team
  • All other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS:

A successful candidate will possess:

  • Ability to work between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm at SFUSD school sites
  • Ability to travel to all SFUSD school sites as required
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and the ability and willingness to work with an economically and culturally diverse clientele from various professional and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written communication, patience, diplomacy, and a high level of customer service skills.
  • Ability to think critically, problem solve and be resourceful.
  • Embraces cultural differences and is willing to foster diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Self-motivated individual who has a passion for ensuring that program goals, objectives and tasks are completed in a timely fashion and exceed standards.
  • An efficient multi-tasker who demonstrates effective time management and the capacity to meet competing deadlines.

  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Well organized, able to work in a fast-paced environment, meet goal objectives, and an excellent team player. True attention to detail, and ability to complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Continuous commitment to improving occupational knowledge.
  • Demonstrate competency with using Microsoft Office Suite, Google platform, Zoom and other technology platforms.
  • Attire business casual. To ensure safety, no red or blue. No clothing with depictions of drugs, violence, or other inappropriate content

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSES

  • Associate degree preferred or a minimum of three years of experience in violence prevention

CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT

  • Conduct annual Tuberculosis Test
  • Must pass Department of Justice Fingerprint screening
  • Must provide proof of COVID-19 Vaccination upon hire (Reasonable Accommodation Requests will be considered)

  • Basic manual dexterity to operate work processing equipment with skill, speed, and accuracy  
  • Must be able to view computer for long periods of time  
  • Ability to use public and/or private modes of transportation; duties are office-based, but travel to various  offsite venues is required  
  • Activities that occur infrequently are: bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, twisting, reaching straight, above  or below shoulders  
  • On occasion, must lift up to 35 LBS 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS²  

The salary range for this position is $27.08 to $32.74 hourly based on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, non-exempt position at 35 hours a week with full benefits.

All full-time positions at IFR are 35 hours per week and are eligible to participate in medical health benefit plans including dental, vision, 403(b) plan, earn vacation, sick leave, fourteen paid holidays, two paid days off (birthday and hire anniversary date) and ongoing learning opportunities.
