Promotor de Salud - Indigena Health & Wellness

The Indígena Health & Wellness program (IHW) promotes holistic health and wellness services targeting the Indigena community in San Francisco, including support of spiritual and cultural traditions, Promotoras (peer health education), case management and mental health services. A principal goal of the program is to increase cultural and linguistic competency within public health settings to the growing Mexican and Central American indigenous communities.

This “Nuestras Raíces Saludables” (Our Healthy Roots) program that aims to achieve the objective of the SDDT (Sugary Drinks Distributor Tax), in the prevention of chronic diseases, facilitating culturally appropriate interventions, that positively affect the nutritional and physical activity behavior of the Latino Indigena community of San Francisco.

Essential Job Duties are, but not limited to the following:
  • Implements multiple outreach, recruitment and linkage strategies to multiple Latinx/Indígena population
  • Support with supervision of workshops/training for groups up to 10 persons
  • Collects basic demographics and screens for program qualifications
  • Perform data entry as assigned by the Nuestras Raices Program coordinator
  • Assist with the development of appropriate interventions with community assistant health promoters and community members
  • Co-facilitate peer support groups, on line or in person as needed
  • Keeps appropriate documentation in terms of sign-up sheets for outreach and programming
  • Attends staff meetings and is an active and engaged member of the IFR team
  • Performs other duties as required by program and/or agency
  • Represents IHW and IFR as appropriate or assigned
Required Skills
  • High school diploma or four(4) years of related work experience
  • Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish and English
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to issues of diversity in the Latinx community including gender, race, language, immigration status, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status
  • Knowledge of software used for reporting, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Knowledge and ability to use online meeting platforms (Zoom, Google meets)
Preferred Skills
  • Bicultural
  • Trilingual: Fluent in English, Spanish, & at least one Mayan language (Quiché, Ch’ol, Tzeltal, Mam or Yucateco)
  • Experience in community health education or disease intervention
Conditions of Continued Employment
  • Must pass and maintain annual tuberculosis test
  • Must pass Department of Justice Fingerprint screening
  • Must complete annual recurrent online trainings as indicated
Compensation

This is a part-time, non-exempt, non-benefited position. The position is for 15 hours per week. The rate of pay is $17.00 an hour.
