Instituto Familiar de la Raza, Inc. is a multi-service community health and social service agency with an emphasis on serving the Chicano/Latino/Indígena community in San Francisco with a special focus on the diverse needs of the Mission District. Services include a wide range of mental health, HIV-related services, and social services, including health promotion, education, prevention, early intervention, case management, psychological and psychiatric interventions, and cultural/social and spiritual re-enforcement. The agency serves children, youth, adults, and families. It has a rich history of working collaboratively with other agencies to meet the needs of the Chicano/Latino/Indígena community and other cultural/racial communities in San Francisco.
JOB/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Si a la Vida–Integrated HIV Services offers a continuum of HIV services to diverse Latino communities in San Francisco, including HIV prevention and mental health services. Our goals are to support Latinos in reducing their risk of STI and HIV infection and transmission, to improve the quality of life of those living with and at risk of HIV, and to reduce stigma related to HIV, STI, sexual orientation, and gender identity. We accomplish this through client-centered, nonjudgmental, culturally and linguistically appropriate services.
The SF Department of Public Health funds this position through two multi-year contracts. Half of the caseload will work with people living with HIV, and the other half will focus on HIV Prevention as a whole-person approach.
Essential Job Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Provides interventions to people living with HIV, many dually diagnosed, including evaluation, individual therapy, crisis intervention, and collateral services as needed
- Works closely with substance abuse counselor, psychiatrist, case managers, and other providers as part of a community mental health model
- Creates treatment plans with clients and monitors them to improve symptoms and increase functioning
- Maintains all documentation, progress notes, billing, and client records in compliance with HIPPA and standards of care and in a timely manner
- Complies with all legal and ethical requirements set forth by the Board of Behavioral Science and with the policies of the San Francisco Behavioral Health Department
- Participates in clinical supervision as required
- Attends required training and agency meetings
- Facilitates a psycho-educational/support group
- Works closely with other psychotherapists, psychiatrists, primary care providers, case managers, and other staff to achieve treatment goals
- Develops and maintains relationships with other providers and agencies, ensuring that clients have maximum access to community resources
PREFERRED SKILL:
- Bicultural strongly preferred
- At least two years of clinical services experience with an emphasis on working with Chicanx/Latinx community
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of diversity in the Latinx/Chicanx community, especially around sexual orientation, culture, language, and gender
- Experience working with issues of immigration, social and structural barriers, and access to services in the Latinx community
- Experience and/or training in providing services to queer, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals
- Experience with community mental health settings
- Experience and/or training in using various clinical models
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Group therapy experience
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Must speak Spanish and English fluently (the majority of clients are Spanish-speaking)
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSES
- Master’s degree in Behavioral Sciences, Social work, Psychology, or a related field
- Must be license eligible or CA Licensed (registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology)
CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT
- Must pass and maintain annual Tuberculosis Test
- Must pass Department of Justice Fingerprint screening
- Complete annual recurrent online training
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS²
Salary is estimated at $75,000 - $81,000 annually, depending on skill set. This position is classified as full-time (35 hours per week) exempt and eligible to participate in medical health benefit plans, including dental, vision, sick leave, thirteen paid holidays, and ongoing learning opportunities.

- Activities that occur infrequently are: bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, twisting, reaching straight, above or below shoulders
- On occasion, must lift up to 35 LBS
