Custodian (Janitor)

Instituto Familiar de la Raza, Inc. is a multi-service community health & social service agency with an emphasis on serving the Chicano/Latino/Indigenous community in San Francisco with a special focus on the diverse needs of the Mission District. Services include a wide range of mental health, HIV related services, and social services, including health promotion, education, prevention, early intervention, case management, clinical, psychological, and psychiatric intervention, as well as cultural/social and spiritual reinforcement. The agency serves children, youth, adults & families; it has a rich history of working collaboratively with other agencies to meet the needs of the diverse Chicano/Latino/Indigenous communities, & other cultural/racial communities in San Francisco.

JOB/ PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Instituto Familiar de La Raza is looking for an energetic individual to join our team and provide custodial and janitorial service for (3) Instituto Familiar de la Raza offices: main headquarter facility (2919/2921 Mission Street), La Cultura Cura office located in the Excelsior (5128 Mission Street) and our office located in SOMA (1663 Mission Street) and provide backup to any of our off-site properties.

This person will be responsible for performing general and detailed cleaning at the main headquarters and off-site facilities of IFR. This position will require working approximately 35 hours a week, afternoons and nights, under the general supervision of our Operations Director. This position provides medical, dental and holiday/vacation pay.

Essential Job Duties include but are not limited to the following:  

  • General cleaning skills
  • General knowledge of janitorial equipment, supplies and chemicals
  • Empty/Take out trash and properly dispose of it
  • Collect recycled material
  • Collect compostable material
  • Dust clean and wet mop all wooden, vinyl and hard surface floors accordingly
  • Dust, Clean, wipe and sanitize/disinfect multiple surfaces, including desks, furniture and walls, among others
  • Maintain kitchen/lounge area clean of dust and debris 
  • Ensure all restrooms are clean and restocked with supplies on a regular basis
  • Empty all wastebaskets, replace plastic liners as required
  • Ensure all common areas, including the front and perimeter of building(s), are clean
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas as needed
  • Spot clean carpets, remove stains/smudges on doors, walls and multiple surfaces
  • Clean and remove fingerprints and smudges on glass surfaces like doors and sidelights of offices 
  • Shampoo carpets and chairs on scheduled days
  • Mop all floors
  • Clean all sinks and counters in the kitchen and break areas
  • Restock all dispensers in the kitchen and break areas
  • Clean and disinfect refrigerators 
  • Assist and help the facilities manager with special projects
  • Be able to work on different work shifts and weekends
  • Perform other related duties as required 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 1 year of janitorial experience
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Capacity to understand hazard labels, and be able to use cleaning chemicals as needed
  • Self-motivated to get the job properly done
  • Basic knowledge of email, internet and computer applications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSES  

  •  High school Diploma or GED equivalent

CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT

  • Must pass and maintain annual Tuberculosis Test (TB)
  • Must pass Department of Justice Fingerprint screening

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS²  

Salary Range: This is a full-time position with benefits, with an hourly salary range of $23.00 to $23.00.

All full-time positions are based on a minimum of thirty-five (35) hours per week.

This is a full-time non-exempt position at 35 hours a week. The position is eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision, and 403(b) plans, earn vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, two wellness days (birthday and hire date) and receive ongoing opportunities for learning.

  • Ability to move about the building and the organization as needed
  • On occasion, must lift up to 40 LBS
